A pacing heuristic: 3 hashtags about your post topic, 3 about your broader niche, 3 about your community. It's a content-strategy mnemonic, not an Instagram-enforced rule. The actual lift comes from picking tags with the right size — see the post counts above to gauge competition.

Are hashtags still relevant in 2026?

Yes, but their role shrank. Instagram's Reels and Explore feed now rely more on captions, audio, and engagement signals; hashtags remain useful as discoverability anchors and as the only public-data lever to gauge a topic's reach. Use them sparingly (3-6 per post) and pick tags in the mid-tier (100K-1M posts) over saturated mega-tags.

What is the 5 hashtag rule?

Instagram's own creator guidance has suggested using 3-5 hashtags per post (vs. the older 'pack 30 in') because engagement signals scale better than tag breadth. Pick five mid-size tags relevant to the post and let the algorithm do the rest.

How do I find Instagram hashtag analytics for free?

Paste any tag above. igtrackr returns total post count, top-performing public posts, and related-tag suggestions in seconds — no signup, no Instagram login. For deeper per-post engagement metrics, use the Profile Analyzer on the account that posted it.

What does the post count tell me about a hashtag?

Post count is the cumulative number of public posts ever tagged with that hashtag. Under 10K = niche (easy to rank in). 10K-100K = focused. 100K-1M = mid-tier (the usual sweet spot). 1M-10M = competitive. 10M+ = saturated, you'll be buried. Match the tag size to your account size for best reach.
