For the past fifty-eight years, Francesco, fondly known as Franco, has made his mark on New York’s Garment District, building a reputation as one of the last pattern makers still practising his craft by hand. What he knows lives in his hands. In rituals repeated over decades. In the fabrics he works with - knowing where to cut, where to fold, where to leave room for movement. Taking something flat and giving it form. Turning tension into balance. And knowing, almost instinctively, when a garment is right. That same devotion to ritual extends beyond his craft and into his daily life. Dancing has been part of Franco’s DNA since he was a young boy - a practice that brings him joy, movement and a life well lived. According to Franco, everybody should dance every day. After almost six decades, pattern making is second nature. But the passion remains. His hands still practise the craft. His students carry the knowledge forward. And New York remains the city he chooses to call home. There is character in doing something the same way for years, without ever becoming careless about how it is done.
